Gitman Bros. x Monocle

In a 50′s fashioned dream world, I would’ve found a short-sleeve, plaid Gitman Bros. Vintage button up for summer, but the proper pattern and size combo never materialized for me this spring, online.

As a consolation prize, I placed an order for the Gitman Bros. x Monocle short-sleeve popover instead. As much as I appreciate Monocle as a magazine, I have to admit it makes me feel a little lobotomized or slavish to purchase a piece of clothing the publication plopped its name on. Following the leader is the march of the uncool, right?

But a classic broadcloth oxford shirt rendered in such an indigo-ink-y hue seemed so quietly quirked out, I knew I could wear the piece with just about anything, and any time of year.

I’m looking forward to how the piece will fade, but it’s actually so intensely inky, I worry/wonder a bit if it even ever will.

Its nice to finally see that shirt on someone, in a way I can relate to it. It looks like it has the perfect fit.
Side note-I really enjoy your blog my friend, you always post inspiring pieces.

I liked that shirt the moment I saw i in the mag. Looks great on you.

Thanks, Vadim. Those pants are the ones I got at Uniqlo when I was in Paris. They fit real well except I need to get them hemmed about 2 inches.

Looking good Will! I’ve been seriously wanting to get one myself so I’m glad to see you in it so I can compare. What size are you wearing? I assume a small? I’ve seen some of Gitman’s short sleeve club collared versions out there online also.

Uniqlo outside of US keeps surprising me. I buy from Japan because of japanese selection and sizes. The fit and the quality is incredible for that price.

I ordered the shirt in a Small, Damien. I’m wearing a S or XS these days, but S was the smallest they had the Monocle came in, so I was a bit worried it might be too big. It’s not too big, so I’d say the sizing is accurate and typical and if anything just a titch on the small side, but in a good way!
