“Always Music In The Air”

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Any music that has any trace of Twin Peaks in its DNA always makes me feel far away and right at home, all at once.

A long-time pet project of film director David Lynch, Fox Bat Strategy features a cast of musicians who began collaborating with Lynch surrounding the filming of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.”

The same line-up of players appeared on Fire Walk With Mes two roadhouse cuts: “The Pink Room” and “Blue Frank” (as well as made cameos in the film itself). In 1994, these same musicians, with an invitation from Lynch, re-entered the studio for experimental collaboration. What emerged were these 6 tracks. For nearly fifteen years these songs have remained unreleased and unheard, slow-cooking in the ether of time, all the while retaining a uniquely modern sensibility. This release is a tribute to the album’s late singer and guitarist Dave Jaurequi, who passed away suddenly in 2006.

Released on June 30th. Take a peek, but with your ears not your eyes, right here.

What I Thought Was Cool…

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

In 9th grade, this scene represented everything I wished for my life at the time: tearful tension, three part harmony, and teenage love triangles.

What creeps over the sofa right after this clip cuts off I probably could’ve lived without, though. Freaky…

Twin Peaks: The Shoe

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Sooner or later it was going to become completely obvious on The Treasury that I’m a complete Peaks-freak. At the age of 14, it was because of this television show that I first began to long for the classic style and strength of a simpler world. In jr. high, I started looking at the strip mall Applebees restaurants and french-rolled acid-washed jeans that surrounded me and wishing I could live in a time or place as beautiful as Twin Peaks.

I think the current movement in men’s fashion toward rugged, American-made classics is born out of these exact same longings. To escape the cheap and tacky chill of modern America and head someplace richer and and cozier.

The new A.P.C. x Nike shoes seem to be getting mixed reviews. I don’t know that these Twin Peaks x Nike hi-tops are a step in a better direction, but they’re weird and charming, like some of my favorite things.
